Rep. Barry Moore: $1.5 trillion funding bill "abandons all restraint'

Statement

Date: March 10, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) issued the following statement after voting against the omnibus appropriations bill.

"Only in Washington could the answer to historic inflation and a $30 trillion debt be an unprecedented $1.5 trillion spending bill. This massive bill abandons all restraint and fails entirely to combat the energy prices bleeding Americans dry. Perhaps even worse, this bill continues to fund the Biden administration's vaccine mandates on our battered healthcare workers, federal employees like law enforcement officers fighting our border crisis, and our military--despite global dangers unseen in generations. This bill also floods the coffers of Planned Parenthood and continues releasing illegal immigrants into our interior. The authors of this bill fund everything imaginable except the fight against the historic threats facing our nation, and the consequences of this bungled opportunity to meet the moment will haunt us for years to come."

Instead of passing all twelve appropriations bills - allowing careful consideration of government spending - Congress passed three short-term funding bills since the previous fiscal year's funding ran dry on September 30, 2021. This 2,700-page omnibus bill was released mere hours before members were forced to vote on its passage.
